Depending on who you ask the new year has a different meaning. One thing I think we can agree upon, I think many of us are ecstatic to see 2020 end.  The beginning of a new year represents starting over fresh, with a clean slate.

There is a whole lot about the old you that is worth keeping, you get the chance to purge the things that were not serving you the past year.

A new year, a new book, a new chapter all starting with blank pages, you can fill any way you want.

The secret to change is focusing all your energy on building something new.

A new year represents a new beginning with opportunities to create anything you want. Life is what we make of it, always has been, always will be.

It is never too late to have your happily ever after. You can start today from where you are at. For some reason, the new year is a time many of us shed the baggage of the previous year. Like somehow we are given permission to put the past in the past.

For me… what I am leaving behind … Cancer, I had it cut out and thrown away with the trash. Starting a new year cancer-free.

If you would have told me at the beginning of last year we would be in a major pandemic that shut down life as we know it  I would have cancer I would have given you a very dismissive laugh. You never know what is around the corner. 2020 is proof of that. Life to the fullest like today is your last, tomorrow is not promised to anyone

I am starting 2021  shedding my cocoon and flying free like a butterfly.  When I was first diagnosed I felt like a punishment, I now know it was a blessing. I feel lighter somehow. For the first time in a long time, I feel hope. Hope as I have never felt before. The things that I thought were important no longer are. I have a clear purpose to use my gifts to help others find the information they need to make informed decisions about their health. There is so much we do not know and so much information at our fingertips it can be very overwhelming.

My advice first and foremost thrusts your instincts. They are there for a reason. You know if it does not feel right it probably is not. Listen to yourself, believe in yourself. I have always felt things do happen for a reason whether you know it or not.   You may find out much later why or you may never know to be open to possibilities that present themselves. Ask for what you want, just be careful what you ask for. I got what I asked for just not quite the way I thought.

I have not used our healthcare system in 16 years. It leaves a lot to be desired. I have more questions than answers. Mostly How did we get here why are we not treating our whole body and connecting the dots?

Why when we are really sick do we have to fight care that treats each of us as the individuals we are. We are like snowflakes None of us are alike Why are there not more definitive answers? Why are we waiting for insurance approval to get the care we need? Why when I was at my sickest must I fight for a test that should be the standard of care? Instead of resting and recovering I was questioning and researching what my next steps should be. I felt like I was gambling in Vegas. I had 50/ 50 odds.

What gave me peace in this journey, where you don’t know if you are making the right fellow cancer ass-kicker told me there is really no right or wrong answer, only my choice, and decision-based on the information given at the time that feels right for me. She was correct.

There were things that did not feel right. So it made the decision a little easier. There was a lot of confusion and being alone what I needed comfort the most due to covid.

After a while, it felt like covid was an excuse. Why did I need to be in a room alone when I found out the cancer was in my lymph nodes? Because of Covid.

I have never been so alone and scared in my life. That that does not kill us makes us stronger. I am not a  victim, I refuse to be a victim Therefore I am not a survivor. I am a conqueror and a champion for others. Cancer did not happen to me but rather for me to show me how to get to the next level, let go, move on. Rise above.

Thy will be done. Challenge the status quo. No one can go back and make a brand new start but you can start from now and make a brand new ending.

Changing our habits to include healthy life choices that boost your immune system should top on your list for 2021.

This year we will be talking about just how much your mouth affects your health and that of your loved ones. What to look for and what steps you can take to prevent issues from occurring and where to get help when a problem arises.

Be kind, be generous, inspire someone, be grateful, take the road less traveled. Have the best year of your life you deserve. Go out there and make your dreams come true. Only you are stopping you. If you can dream it you can achieve it. Happy 2021.
