As we approach the end of the year, it’s natural to look back and reflect on how far we’ve come and where we might have fallen short. But instead of feeling discouraged by what didn’t go as planned, what if we used this time to reset, refocus, and reclaim our health as we step into a new year?

The truth is, the end of the year isn’t just a time to celebrate it’s an opportunity to pause, assess, and take ownership of our health. And by ownership, I don’t mean perfection. I mean taking responsibility for the small, consistent actions that add up to a healthier, happier you.

I mean three simple steps reflect, reset, and reclaim your health as we close out 2024. Whether you’ve had a fantastic year or one filled with challenges, this is your moment to take control and start 2025 on the right foot.

Step 1: Reflect on 2024

Reflection is a powerful tool for growth. Before we can move forward, we need to understand where we’ve been.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • What went well this year? Did you drink more water, start exercising, or improve your sleep? Celebrate those wins, no matter how small they may seem.
  • What didn’t work? Did stress take over? Were there habits you wanted to start but didn’t follow through on?
  • What’s one lesson you learned about your health?

Here’s an example of reflection in action:
For me, 2024 was the year I fully committed to nasal hygiene and breathing. It might sound simple, but making this one change transformed my energy levels and sleep quality. It’s a reminder that even the smallest shifts can create a ripple effect in your overall well-being.

Take five minutes today to jot down your answers to these questions. Reflection isn’t about dwelling on the past, it’s about learning from it so you can move forward with clarity.

Step 2: Reset Your Habits

The end of the year is the perfect time for a reset, not a dramatic overhaul, but a series of small, intentional adjustments that set you up for success in the new year.

Here’s where my O.W.N.E.R. Framework comes into play. These five steps will help you reset your health with simplicity and intention:

O – Oxygen: Start with Better Breathing

Breathing is the foundation of life, yet most of us never think about it. It is automatic. Mouth breathing, for example, can lead to fatigue, poor sleep, and even oral health issues.

Try this simple reset: Spend two minutes a day practicing nasal breathing. Inhale through your nose for four counts, hold for four counts, and exhale for four counts. This habit will reduce stress, improve focus, and set a calm tone for your day.

W – Water: Hydrate for Energy and Vitality

Dehydration can sneak up on you, leading to fatigue, cravings, and headaches. Make hydration simple:

  • Start your morning with a glass of water before anything else.
  • Carry a reusable water bottle to remind yourself to drink throughout the day.
  • Add a slice of lemon, orange cucumber for flavor and a dose of vitamin C.

One extra glass of water a day can make a big difference.

N – Nutrition: Small Changes, Big Impact

Instead of focusing on what to eliminate, think about what you can add.

Here’s a small reset: Focus on upgrading one meal a day. For example, swap out a sugary snack for a nutrient-packed option like an apple with almond butter. These small shifts add up to better energy and overall health.

E – Enough Sleep: Protect Your Rest

Sleep is your body’s time to recover and restore, but it’s often the first thing we sacrifice.

Start with this simple reset: Set a consistent bedtime for one week. Create a wind-down routine by turning off screens 30 minutes before bed and doing some deep breathing, stretching or a warm bath. Your body and mind will thank you.

R – Respect Your Body: Listen and Respond

Respecting your body means paying attention to its signals. Are you ignoring pain, pushing through exhaustion, or neglecting self-care?

Take five minutes each day to check in with yourself. For me, respecting my body means focusing on tongue posture and breathing exercises. Being grateful for the something everyday is a big one for me. These small habits have boosted my energy and helped me feel more in tune with my body’s needs.

Step 3: Reclaim Your Health in 2025

Reclaiming your health isn’t about making a long list of resolutions. It’s about owning your choices and creating small intentional habits that align with your goals.

Let me share a quick story about a client of mine. She came to me feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. Her mornings were chaotic, her kids were picky eaters, and she felt like her health was slipping away.

We started small. She focused on drinking more water, improving her breathing habits, and creating a simple bedtime routine for her family. Within months, she felt like a new person she was feeling more energized, more in control, and more connected to her health and her family.

That’s what reclaiming your health looks like. It’s about small, consistent actions that add up to a healthier, happier life.
