By the end of this blog, you’ll have the tools to reboot your health, clear what’s no longer serving you, and align with the thriving, vibrant version of yourself you deserve to be. And the best part? It’s all within your control.
You do not need to wait for a new year. You can do this anytime of year. Today, we’re hitting the reset button! I’m sharing a simple 3-step process to reset your health, habits, and mindset so you can step into 2025 feeling fresh and focused.
This isn’t about starting over or wiping the slate clean, it’s about building on what’s already there, but making it better, more intentional, and aligned with the life you want to live. So grab a cup of tea, take a deep breath, and we hit the reset button together!
Think about your computer. When it starts running slow, glitching, or freezing, what do you do? You restart it. You clear the clutter, shut down unnecessary programs, and give it the chance to reboot and refresh. Well, the same goes for your health and your life.
Why We Need to Reset
Life is busy. Between work, family, and everything else, it’s easy to accumulate habits, thoughts, and routines that drain us instead of fueling us.
Think about your computer again. Over time, it picks up junk files, runs background programs you don’t even know about, and starts to slow down. If you don’t reboot, it crashes. The same thing happens to our bodies and minds.
Here are some signs you might need a reset:
- You’re constantly tired, even after sleeping.
- You’re feeling stuck in the same patterns, whether it’s your health, habits, or mindset.
- You’re overwhelmed by stress or emotions.
The good news? Like I mentioned earlier, resetting doesn’t mean starting over. It means clearing the clutter, fine-tuning your habits, and giving yourself the space.
The Power of a Reboot
When you reset, it’s like installing new software for your life. You’re creating the conditions for better energy, clearer focus, and stronger health. But what does that look like in real life?
Resetting can be as simple as practicing nasal breathing or doing a deep belly breathing exercise.
For example, let’s talk about breathing. Many of us go through life in fight or flight, breathing in shallow, stressed patterns. We’re mouth breathing, we’re rushing, and we’re not giving our bodies the oxygen they need. This ‘junk file’ of improper breathing might seem small, but it impacts everything, from your energy levels to your immune system.
Think about how you feel when you are sleep deprived, you are basically running on empty. Every night when we sleep our bodies, rest, reset and repair. Are you waking up refreshed, or do you feel like you barely made it through the night? If your sleep isn’t restorative, it’s like trying to run your computer with 10% battery, everything feels slower. Resetting your sleep might mean creating a bedtime routine or addressing snoring or sleep apnea.
Letting Go of What No Longer Serves You
Resetting is also letting go of what’s no longer serving you. Imagine trying to reboot a computer with 100 tabs open, you have to close the tabs first. Many people feel letting go has to do with others in your life and setting boundaries. While that can be true there are other things we need to let go of.
Here’s how this applies to your health:
- Physical Clutter: Are you filling your body with foods or habits that drain your energy instead of fueling it? Maybe it’s time to reset your nutrition by cutting back on processed foods or hydrating more. Do you need to declutter, your closet or your house getting rid of things you no longer use and are just taking up space?
- Mental Clutter: Are you holding onto negative thoughts, stress, or beliefs that keep you stuck? Resetting your mindset might mean reframing those thoughts into empowering ones. While it is not always easy being grateful and finding something to be happy about go a long way to boosting dopamine the feel good hormone. Something as simple as looking at yourself in the mirror and smiling at yourself. The person you should love the most is you! Its is hard to share the love if you do not love yourself first.
- Emotional Clutter: Sometimes, we need to let go of guilt, perfectionism, or the need to do it all. Resetting your emotions means giving yourself grace. AS humans we do most things based on emotion if it does not feel good it is not for you. Follow your instincts, Your inner guidance system is never wrong. We just do not always trust ourselves and we look outside ourselves for approval.
Here’s the thing, most people are just trying to survive these days and really only care about how things affect them. So getting yourself worked about or worrying about what others think is a waste of energy. They may talk about you for a week but then they move on to someone else. The person you need to impress and care about is you. Self care is not selfish. We are taught it is wrong to put ourselves first. I wish we were teaching our kids to respect themselves, to listen to how they feel and not put so much value on what others think of them. I know that is a simple to say it. But too often we tell them not to do things because what would so and so think? We teach them to be self conscious and base their value on what others think of them from the beginning. I was guilty of this, my Mom did it to me. She still does it at times. I did not know any better, for years I based my self worth on what others thought about me. I now know better. I should have worried more about what I thought about me. I would have been happier. I put others before me for decades. If you have not read Joseph Campbell book “Follow Your Bliss” I highly recommend you get a copy.
Aligning with Your Future Self
Once you’ve let go of what’s weighing you down, you can start aligning with your future self. Think about the version of you who feels vibrant, energized, and in control. What do you do differently? Think about what you want as if you already have. This is a hard concept to grasp.
This isn’t about perfection. It’s about small, intentional steps that align with where you want to go. We can not thrive unless we are meeting our basic needs first.
- Breathing: Start with nasal breathing. It’s simple, but it’s a game-changer for your energy and focus. Nasal breathing gives us more nitric oxide and calms our nervous system.
- Sleep: Create a sleep environment that works for you, cool, dark, quiet, and free of distractions.
- Nutrition: Think about how you can nurture your body, not just feed it. Add in one more whole food to your meals today. Do not eat at least an hour before bed. Otherwise your stomach is still digesting while you are trying to sleep.
The key is consistency. Little habits and actions add up to big results over time.
The 3 Step Action Plan
So, how do you actually hit the reset button?
Here’s your step-by-step action plan:
- Reflect: Take five minutes today to think about what’s no longer serving you. Write it down, whether it’s a habit, a thought, or a pattern.
- Release: Commit to letting go of one thing on that list this week. Maybe it’s saying no to something that drains you or skipping the soda at lunch.
- Reclaim: Replace what you let go of with something that aligns with your future self.
For example:
- If you’re letting go of mouth breathing, replace it with 2 minutes of deep nasal breathing before bed.
- If you’re letting go of late nights, replace it with a calming bedtime routine.
- If you are letting go of clutter everytime you buy something and bring it in the house, let go of something you are not using and is just taking up space. Donating it may even make you feel good, one person’s trash is another’s treasure.
