Cavitron LED Inserts


What is a Cavitron LED Insert?


It is one of the latest technological advances in ultrasonic design, with the addition of a light source to the tip of the insert.


Lighted tips provide superior visibility in difficult areas to access, minimizing the need to adjust the overhead dental light.


A light-emitting diode (LED) produces a strong light without generating heat, increasing both patient and operator comfort.

A magnetostrictive ultrasonic scaler


• Uses a pulsing magnetic field with a metal “stack” that flexes to move the tip in an elliptical pattern.


• Transmits high-frequency vibrations from 25,000 to 40,000 per second into a hand piece that is used to remove deposits from the surface of a tooth.


• Generates heat requiring water flow for cooling.


Correct adaptation is essential for hygienists to prevent root surface damage and unnecessary cementum removal in periodontal therapy.




Insight inserts are to be used with magnetostrictive ultrasonic scalers to perform:


• All general supra and sub gingival scaling.

• Deplaquing procedures.

• Periodontal debridement flushing pockets after SRP.


How to use:


Basic Instrumentation:


1. Select the appropriate insert for treatment.


2. Fill hand piece with water, wet o-ring, and use gentle twisting motion to seat insert tip into hand piece.


3. Use the lowest effective power setting with a thin tip for plaque removal.


4. Use medium to high power setting with a large or universal tip for gross supra and sub gingival debridement.


5. Adjust the water control until the water flows with a fast drip or mist.


6. Use very light pressure holding the hand piece with a pen grasp or modified pen grasp.


7. Position the insert so the tip is parallel to the tooth surface.


8. Start at the top of the calculus ledge and tap in an apical direction.


9. Using a light, smooth, gentle touch with slow, short, controlled overlapping horizontal, vertical or oblique strokes.


10. Burnishing of calculus can occur with a lateral or quick stroking motion, inadequate power, and worn out tips.


Use of the insert at excessive power settings or holding the insert stationary for an extended time may damage teeth or roots and could damage the insert.


Contraindications and Warnings


• Not to be used on patients or by clinicians with cardiac pacemakers.


• Not to be used on high-risk infectious patients. Due to lavage spray.


• Not to be used on restorative materials.
